2012: A Year in Memes

2012 draws to a close, so here are some memes to celebrate it in its final breaths.  Memes stolen from my friend sabra_n. Man, it would be so cool if I knew how to do dreamdwidth tags.

1. Your main fandom of the year?

You know, it’s probably still Chuck. I mean, I’m not nearly as active over there as I once was, not by long-shot (given that I can only drag myself to read Chuckfic sparingly, which isn’t fair to the good authors that remain), but if you look back at my year, I finished Fates, wrote three completed Greater stories (one of them multi-chaptered), won some Awesome awards, and wrote Set, Spike, Dive! That’s compared to a few short stories in the Avengers fandom, which I hang out in mostly right now. So I’m going to have to say that 2012 was my Chuck swan song.

2. Your favorite film watched this year?

Gonna have to go with The Avengers, though I also enjoyed Pitch Perfect a whole bunch. And Brave was good (better on the second viewing, actually).

3. Your favorite book read this year?

The Night Circus kept me all night while I read it.

4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?

Fun. - Some Nights. I was startled by how much I liked this album (I paid $1 in a lightning deal from Amazon, so it was almost a fluke buy).

5. Your favorite TV show of the year?

Fringe. It had its stumbles and its missteps, but even firing on only a few pistons, very little can match it. I watched a bunch of great TV this year: The Hour, Downton Abbey Season Two, Once Upon a Time, Community, Raising Hope

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

Oh, definitely the Avengers. There’s just so much insanity to behold, it’s marvelous. You can write an entire fic where the characters are zoologists stationed in Antarctica and only one person bats an eyelash. Why? JUST BECAUSE.

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year past three years?

Why, HELLO, CHUCK.

9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?

Jeffster.

10. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?

sabra_N: (I can answer that one for you, NATASHA. Unless you're still true to Olivia.)

You know Olivia is my fandom wife. Or she should be, the number of times I’ve proposed to her. I live in constant awe of her BAMFness. She’s even really considerate and lets me appreciate the BAMFness of Natasha Romanoff, my fandom mistress (girlfriend is such a tacky term).

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?

“Thank you for your cooperation.”

12. The most missed of your old fandoms?

The insanity of some of the older Chuck stories. I mean, back in the heyday, Sarah was a double agent, Chuck was a superhero named Osiris, Bryce was a psychopath in need of putting down because the Intersect went wrong, Chuck was in prison and in need of breaking out...I miss those days.

13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

I’m eyeing the Once Upon a Time fandom right now, but my friend is trying to win me over to Stargate Atlantis. We’ll see.

14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

SHIELD show. OMG SHIELD SHOW.

What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
I rented a car. No, seriously, I was very proud of myself. I was all adult about it—I had an app on my phone that had all of the information stored, and I took pictures of the car to note any dents and stuff, and I drove it in L.A. traffic and up the 101. It was a real mark of adulthood. AAAAND it was electric blue. *preens*

Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Uh, no idea, lemme check. *checks* Oh, right, after reviewers used my 2011 resolutions to shame me into finishing a story (which didn’t work, bitches), I decided 2012 was not a year to make resolutions.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.

Did anyone close to you die?
I wasn’t close to him, but I knew him all of his way too short life. I hate cancer.

What countries did you visit?
Los Angeles. I firmly believe this is a country in its own right.

What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Major travel. And ability to focus.

What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory?
January 18th? I don’t know.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I finished What Fates Impose, bitches.

What was your biggest failure?
I didn’t finish out my Chuckfic obligations.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yeah, I had allergies for the first time ever, so every weekend was spent in a great deal of foggy pain.

What was the best thing you bought?
Scrivener.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sister graduated college. Another sister got engaged. My brother got a job.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Dan Stevens.

Where did most of your money go?
Rent.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My trip to California, writing new stories, seeing my friend.

What songs will always remind you of 2012?
Call Me Maybe and The World is Saved.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? About the same.
thinner or fatter? Fatter.
richer or poorer? Richer.

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Traveling.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Suffering from allergies.

How did you spend Christmas?
Lazing about on the couch in a food coma.

Did you fall in love in 2012?
With cooking, yes.

How many one night stands?
HAHAHAHAHA. Ha.

What was your favorite TV program?
Fringe, but I doubt that’s going to change any time soon. I just can’t help my love for Olivia Dunham, y’all.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Does it have to be a real person? Because I’m pretty sure I still hate Blue Lincoln. I can’t help it! He’s so booooooorrrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnnnggggggg.

What was the best book you read?
I ate up The Night Circus really quickly and it stuck the longest.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
She & Him. Holy crap, I love her voice.

What did you want and get?
Mixing bowls. I got ’em.

What did you want and not get?
Freedom from migraines.

What was your favorite film of this year?
The Avengers, seriously. I saw it several times in theaters and every time, there was something more to love in it. Just a perfect storm of camp, heart, and brilliance.

What did you do on your birthday?
Pretty sure I worked and ordered pizza.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I have no idea.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
I still hate fashion and don’t see why people can’t be satisfied with the fact that I don’t care and will feel more comfortable in jeans and a tee-shirt.

What kept you sane?
Same thing as ever: writing. It lets me push out the psychoses and other things and it allows me a new world to explore.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Anna Kendrick. I started following her on Twitter, and everything she says generally leads to a cracked rib (from laughter; as far as I know, Anna Kendrick is not a loan shark out to get that 50k I borrowed from her last month).

What political issue stirred you the most?
It was definitely “the war on women” year, apparently.

Who did you miss?
My friends all live in different states.

Who was the best new person you met?
Probably my Twitter pal Lefty, as she’s hilarious.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
Get out before the devil knows you’re there.
