I like how she's always reminding herself that it's "for the cover," but you get these nice hints throughout that it's gone beyond that, despite her better judgment. You can feel that she's ill-at-ease around the child, but her natural protectiveness of her is really sweet. I like that her instincts work so well in interacting with Violet, and that her final argument in favor of continuing to spend time with Chuck is that she's not a coward. It all makes for a fun and interesting character, and a lovely little vignette to read.
