So my sister has a dog. I say it’s a dog, though I’m kind of convinced the dog wandered into the “small horse” line when God was handing out physical attributes. She’s a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog and a Black Lab mix, and a puppy, so generally her name is “Trainwreck.” Very adorable dog, but a) I am not a fan of big dogs, and b) puppy, so VERY enthusiastic and direly in need of training. My sister brought her to the house while we celebrated half-Christmas (brother and sister opened presents on Christmas, as sister was spending Christmas with the fiancé’s family and brother had to work). Given that the dog woke me up and was so enthusiastic and unmannerly that Nikki and Joey were both cowering on the bed, shaking, I wasn’t too thrilled about the inclusion of Nix the Trainwreck. My sister was in turn not thrilled about that. I think she was annoyed at me for snapping at her when she tried to wake me up at eight in the morning.
Given that that was my only annoyance during Christmas vacation, I’d say it was a good break.
Last night was the Downton Abbey Christmas Special, so if you heard a million voices suddenly cry out in terror and get silenced, that’s why. I had a thirty second debate with myself if I cared about getting spoiled and should watch it, then I shrugged and realized I didn’t care. I’ll watch it eventually, but right now I’m just shaking my head at it.
I kind of want to orphan Guide Us Home. People give me crap about it because they want more detail, but it was never supposed to be that type of story (plus, I’ve already gotten trapped into a fandom because I did go into detail, over 400,000 words of it. I’m done with that shit). It was supposed to be ten chapters and not delve too deeply, and if people want detail, they can read A Very Modern Arrangement or For Ye Devour Widows’ Houses.
But on to happier things! It’s Yuletide! I’ve been a little closer to it this year than before (though I decided not to participate) and it’s been wonderful so far. First, you know, there’s things like the Fix-It Fic for 50 Shades of Grey, and then there are these two Calvin and Hobbes/Hobbes and Bacon fics that are the most delightful things I’ve ever seen, and, you know, The Pirates! fanfic, which I didn’t ever think about before.
At the same time, there’s be-compromised’s Secret Santa Exchange going on. Two recs from that, too: In Other Words, Thursday which has fantastic Clint and Natasha on a mission exchange, and Wild Dedication, which is an outside observer fic and has fantastic Maria, Coulson, and Pepper interaction with the team. That said, all of the fic written so far has been wonderful, and you can read it on the Secret Santa tag.
Also, got a new layout. I just can’t help it. I like aqua blue.
